Dr. Patel’s expertise lies in understanding how the mind and body (mental & physical health) interconnect with each other. She strives to work collaboratively with her patients, actively soliciting feedback in assessing what is and is not working. Dr. Patel spends quite a bit of time providing education on diagnoses and treatment. She also places emphasis on how early developmental experiences impact the ways an individual may respond to conflict and making daily life decisions.
Dr. Patel is a board-certified medical doctor and keeps an eye out for medical illnesses masquerading as or contributing to psychiatric symptoms, and vice-versa. She may conduct a physical exam and/or order diagnostic tests to search for any diseases that may be causing or contributing to your presenting problem. She will often collaborate with primary care physicians and medical specialists to provide comprehensive interdisciplinary care for the mind and body. Dr. Patel also places emphases on practicing evidence-based medicine by contributing to and reading the latest scientific literature for diagnosis, medications, integrative and lifestyle interventions that have been shown to help.
